BG Bride: Leah
Wedding date: January 20, 2018
"The whole day was so memorable, and a blur all at the same time. From the very beginning of the day when my bridesmaids and I were pampered getting our hair and makeup done, all the way to the end of the night when John and I were sitting in our hotel room overlooking the city as we ate Steak and Shake, it was just a perfect day."
"John and I were friends in high school, but we didn't start dating until I started college. For one of our first dates he took me ice skating. Every winter after that we planned to go again, but we never went. John finally took me one day in Traverse City, where we live, and in the middle of skating he got down on one knee and proposed! I was so shocked because I didn’t even know he went and picked out a ring. He took a trip to Grand Rapids without me knowing, bought my ring, and then he hid it under our bed. After he popped the question, we went to dinner at Aerie [at Grand Traverse Resort] where we watched the sunset over the bay."
"I had so much fun shopping for my wedding dress! I knew right away that I wanted my mom, grandma, bridesmaids, John’s mom, and John’s grandma to be there. I scheduled a Champagne Appointment at Bridal Gallery. It was amazing! Seriously one of the best wedding-related decisions I made. We had the entire store to ourselves where we sipped champagne, had different treats, and just had a blast. I already knew which dress I wanted because I had been looking at the different dresses online, so I was able to have some fun and try on all sorts of dresses without stress. I tried on THE dress at the end. We also had some extra time so my bridesmaids were able to try on different dresses, too!"
"My older brothers officiated and performed the ceremony, and that was really special for both of us. John and I wanted the ceremony to be really personal, so we asked my oldest brother to officiate and my other older brother to help perform the ceremony.
John and I wrote our own vows. That was a challenge for both of us because we don’t like a lot of attention. But again, I think it added another personal and meaningful touch. Funny side story, we both finished our vows at about 10am the day of the wedding!
We purchased a cardboard cutout of our dog, Luna because she couldn’t be there for the wedding, but we still wanted her to be part of our big day!"
"Right now, we are just enjoying being married! We’ve been together for almost 9 years, so it’s been fun being able to call him my husband! With moving to Traverse City, wedding planning, buying a house, getting a dog, and starting new careers all happening within the last year or two, it’s been nice to just sit back, breathe, and enjoy being together."
